Work and the isolation that work creates for an individual is the driving force in many lives. Living to work is a reality of many. In my life especially, work has become my reason for being. Living and working on a farm for two years, work became all encompassing for myself. Being unable to leave your place of work creates an unending cycle of isolation where you are unable to both physically and mentally separate your thoughts. Everything bleeds together, every action or event you partake in is overshadowed by the burden of the job, your thoughts dominated by the minute actions and nuances of the job, your relationships scorned and at times ruined because you’re unable to effectively identify yourself without the context of the job.
